Why Choose Walk NYC Podiatry for Foot & Ankle Emergencies?
Introducing Urgent Feet™
With over twenty years of clinical experience in foot and ankle medicine, sports injuries, trauma, and biomechanics, Dr. Barnea provides specialist-level evaluation and treatment focused exclusively on the foot and ankle — bringing a depth of expertise that a general urgent care or emergency room setting cannot replicate.
Urgent Feet™ is equipped to handle a wide range of acute foot and ankle conditions on-site, including digital X-rays, fracture evaluation, strapping and immobilization, casting, dispensing of walking boots, CAM walkers, surgical shoes, and braces — allowing for comprehensive evaluation and immediate treatment initiation without the wait times and generalist approach of a hospital emergency room.
For conditions requiring advanced imaging, surgical intervention, or hospital-based care, appropriate referrals are made promptly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept walk-ins?
No. Walk NYC Podiatry does not accept walk-ins. Same-day urgent appointments are frequently available and can be scheduled by phone. Prompt scheduling ensures that each patient receives a thorough, focused evaluation rather than the rushed assessment typical of walk-in settings.
Should I go to the emergency room or Urgent Feet™?
For life-threatening emergencies or severe trauma — including open fractures, deep lacerations with uncontrolled bleeding, signs of severe infection with systemic symptoms such as fever and chills, suspected vascular injury, or any condition affecting overall health and not limited to the foot and ankle — a hospital emergency room is the appropriate setting.
For the majority of acute foot and ankle conditions — including fractures, sprains, sports injuries, sudden pain, gout attacks, ingrown toenail infections, wounds, and diabetic foot concerns — a specialist outpatient setting offers more focused evaluation, faster access to a foot and ankle expert, and more targeted treatment than a general emergency room or urgent care center.
Do you perform X-rays on-site?
Yes. Digital foot and ankle X-rays are performed on-site when clinically indicated, allowing for immediate fracture evaluation and treatment planning without the need for a separate imaging facility.
Do you provide walking boots or braces?
Yes. Walking boots, CAM walkers, surgical shoes, braces, and other immobilization devices are stocked and dispensed on-site when indicated — so patients leave the office with the appropriate support already in place.
Can sports injuries be evaluated?
Yes. Sports-related foot and ankle injuries are among the most common conditions evaluated at Walk NYC Podiatry. Dr. Barnea’s background in sports medicine and biomechanics allows for a thorough assessment of not only the acute injury but the underlying mechanical factors that may have contributed to it.
Do you treat fractures?
Many foot and ankle fractures — including toe fractures, metatarsal fractures, and certain ankle fractures — can be evaluated and managed conservatively in an outpatient setting depending on the type, location, stability, and severity of the injury. Fractures requiring surgical intervention or hospital-based management are referred promptly and appropriately.
What should I bring to my urgent appointment?
Bring a valid photo ID, insurance information, a list of current medications, and any relevant prior imaging studies if available. Wear or bring footwear that can be easily removed, and if possible, avoid tight bandaging of the injury before arrival.
